Frequently asked questions about the FOODDUCK® spread dispenser
FOODDUCK® is a Finnish innovation designed for the automatic dispensing of margarines, cream cheeses, and other spreads at bread tables and serving lines in schools, hotels, and lunch restaurants. The spread dispenser is a hygienic and environmentally friendly alternative to portion packs and traditional spread tubs.
The FOODDUCK® spread dispenser is a Finnish innovation and manufactured in Finland. Foodduck Oy is a member of the Finnish Work association, and FOODDUCK® spread dispensers carry the Key Flag Symbol. In addition, the products are granted the Design from Finland mark.
These marks signify Finnish origin, reliability, responsibility, and the fact that we proudly employ people in Finland. The FOODDUCK® spread dispenser is a conscious choice.
The margarine used in the dispenser is also fully Finnish and is packaged at our own facility in Naantali.
The FOODDUCK® spread dispenser originated from a familiar scene and a simple problem at the bread table of a self-service restaurant: messy spread tubs and sticky knives sparked the idea of creating a cleaner and more hygienic way to serve spreads.
This led to the development of a dispenser that automatically portions the spread for the diner. Automatic dispensing ensures both hygiene and safety – people with allergies or celiac disease can safely use the FOODDUCK® dispenser, as the spread remains sealed inside the device, protected from contact, bread crumbs, and environmental impurities.
FOODDUCK® spread dispensers are especially useful in schools, professional kitchens, hotels, lunch restaurants, hospitals, and care homes – environments where hygiene, smooth serving, and food waste reduction are key priorities. The more diners, the greater the benefits and savings!
We are happy to tell you more about how our solutions can support your specific needs.
FOODDUCK® spread dispensers are designed and built as lifecycle devices to promote sustainability and circular economy principles. Advanced technology allows for efficient use of the packaging and eliminates almost all waste. Sustainability guides our operations at every level:
- Lifecycle approach: The dispensers are designed with quality and durability in mind. Our rental model ensures they are maintained and remain in use as long as possible.
- Efficient logistics: We carefully plan transport routes from order to delivery, minimizing environmental impact throughout the supply chain.
Less waste, more benefit: The innovative FOODDUCK® pouch generates only about 10% of the packaging waste compared to conventional options, reduces environmental burden, and is entirely aluminum-free. Sustainability is not just a promise – it is action.
FOODDUCK® spread dispensers are always rental devices. With our service model, we ensure that customers always have up-to-date devices suited to their needs. The rental includes a maintenance agreement.
Made from high-quality components, the dispensers can be repaired, refurbished, and reused, keeping them in circulation for as long as possible. At the end of their lifecycle, all usable materials and components are recovered for reuse. This reduces waste and promotes sustainability.
The FOODDUCK® spread dispenser brings savings from many angles. Food waste is reduced since the automatic dispensing ensures an accurate, portioned amount every time, preventing excessive use of spread. Waste is also minimized, the dispenser ensures that the pouch is emptied and used efficiently to the very last portion. Inside the device, the spread is protected from oxygen, light, and environmental bacteria, unlike in an open spread tub. A spread tub left out on the table often has to be discarded after the meal, as it can no longer be safely offered again. Any spread remaining in a FOODDUCK® pouch, however, can be used in food preparation, turning what would normally end up as waste into a valuable product. This supports the circular economy and minimizes unnecessary waste.
In terms of labor savings, serving spreads is clean and efficient, and keeping the bread station tidy no longer requires unnecessary work.
For many users, the savings are also concrete in the form of lower waste management costs and faster service at the buffet line.
The FOODDUCK® spread dispenser portions spreads accurately and hygienically, preventing unnecessary overuse. Diners receive exactly the amount they need, significantly reducing waste compared to traditional tubs.
The modern pouch packaging is used up completely by the device. Half-used containers and discarded open tubs are eliminated, as the pouch remains sealed and can be reused in future service or in food preparation.
FOODDUCK® uses innovative pouch packaging that drastically reduces packaging waste. Portion packs and spread tubs are left far behind when measuring the greenest choice.
When packaging waste is weighed, the pouch generates only about 10% of the waste compared to other alternatives. FOODDUCK® packaging is also entirely aluminum-free, unlike traditional spread tubs.
Key benefits of switching to a FOODDUCK® spread dispenser:
- Plastic waste can be reduced by up to 90%, lowering environmental impact and waste management costs.
- Recycling is easier with aluminum-free pouches.
- Mixed waste bins at dish return stations may no longer be needed, as diners no longer generate plastic or aluminum waste from small spread packs.
- Serving is faster, lines move more smoothly, and knives are no longer needed at the bread table.
- The serving area stays cleaner, reducing the time needed for maintenance. No more sticky knives or messy tubs!
Different models are available, mainly differing in size and exterior design. FOODDUCK® lille is the most compact option, ideal for smaller sites with fewer diners.

Spread pouches are available in two sizes: 940 g and 400 g.
The compact FOODDUCK® lille uses the smaller 400 g pouch. All other models use the larger 940 g pouch.
Depending on portion size, one 940 g pouch yields 130–200 portions, while one 400 g pouch yields 80–100 portions.
